Canvas Board – New style scheme Saturday 658

I’ve created a new theme based on Saturday 658. This theme is called Canvas Board and is a simplified derivative of Saturday 658. It has only the standard layout from Saturday 658. It still has the theme options for switching from graphical title to text, inserting analytics, inserting ads, adding feedburner etc. It’s a basic white/off white/ light light gray theme that will suit anyone looking for a simple, clean no-fuss layout.

Instead of making this a new theme I’ve decided to make it a new style scheme since it’s basically just the same as Saturday 658. So Canvas Board is a new style scheme rather than a new theme based on Saturday 658.

Issues with search box alignment?

Are you have issues with the search box alignment? The search div is absolutely positioned, so if your horizontal menu of pages takes up more than the space alloted you’ll end up with a situation where the category menu bar over which the search div is positioned will be pushed down several pixels. Because the search div is absolutely positioned, it will not move down with the category menu bar. The solution to this problem is to exclude some of your pages from the topmost horizontal page menu so that it does not take up more than 1 row. Or you can edit the search class in style.css and alter the value “top:180px;” increasing it as needed to reposition the search bar.

Style cleanups and a second layout option

A number of CSS style issues in Saturday 658 have been corrected in the latest version, 1.0.6 and a new layout option has been added after noticing that some people are having problems with the showcase layout. So now you can switch from showcase layout to standard layout from your theme options page. Upon first installation the theme will default to the standard layout. [GSMITHBOOK]

Smoking Blue Black

Smoking Blue Black is a dark style scheme for Saturday 658. It features a black background with electric blue smoke. The blue smoke was made using smoke brushes set 1 by Falln-Stock

‘Pretty in Pink’ now ‘Pink Bubblegum’

Pretty in Pink has been renamed to Pink Bubblegum and the background design has been changed from the previously packaged. Here is a screen-shot of the revised “Pretty in Pink”, now “Pink Bubblegum”.

Working on 2 new style schemes

Working on two new style schemes, one based on this tutorial. The layout in all the style schemes is of course based on the default layout, so the style scheme based on the above mentioned tutorial will not have the layout of the tutorial. It will have the layout of Saturday 658; but it will use the color scheme from the tutorial.

The other scheme will be a darker scheme using a black background with blue smoke applied from smoke brushes set 1 by Falln-Stock. I’m iffy about the darker scheme. Not sure what type of blog it would work with best. The tentative names of the style schemes are smokingblueblack and playmisty

Working out some issues with the image cropper

Saturday 658 is almost ready for download but needs a bit more testing. Making this post to test the image cropper so excuse the gibberish. Is gibberish spelled with a G as in gibberish or a J as in jibberish? With a G it looks like it would be pronounced the way the G in God is pronounced, like Gibb as in Andy Gibb[erish]. Who’s Andy Gibb anyway? The name is familiar but not the person. Let’s go look up the spelling of gibberish jibberish and find out the answer to the question of who is Andy Gibb….

Well, it looks like gibberish is indeed spelled with a G, so maybe the problem is that I’ve been pronouncing it wrong? Or is it just one of those cases where the G has a J sound? As for Andy Gibb, he was a member of the Bee Gees. He died in 1988 five days after her turned 30. He died from myocarditis which according to wikipedia is “an inflammation of the heart muscle due to a recent viral infection”.

Don’t take life for granted folks….

Purple Flair

Purple Flair is another style scheme for Saturday 658. Feel free to download it if you would like to use it. It uses a non-repeating background image. The design is modeled after the tutorial found here

To use this scheme download purpleflair.zip and upload it to the styles folder in your saturday658 theme folder then go to the theme options page and select purpleflair from the dropdown menu. Remember to change the logo URl if you’re using the graphic logo instead of text.
