The horizontal categories menu
To avoid situations where you might have more categories than can be displayed in the horizontal menu, only your first five categories will be listed in the horizontal menu. For best results your categories should probably not have very long names. In case your categories do have very long names and the horizontal menu gets messed up, you’ll have to edit header.php to change the number of categories to a lower value. Look for <?php wp_list_categories('title_li=&number=5'); ?> and change number=5 to a lower value until your categories fit neatly in the horizontal menu space.
The menu is a drop-down menu so your children categories will drop down when the parent category is hovered over.
When I first installed Sat658 – I got short synopsys for 3 posts across the top (just like on your site here).
It had the Continue button.
Now I don’t get that anymore – it lists all of the posts with all of the content.
I liked this format because I wanted to show several posts and let people click on the ones they wanted more detail.
What did I break ??????
Hi John, you didn’t break anything. You just need to to the theme options page and select “showcase” instead of “standard” for the layout option

Is there a way I can make the sidebar on the main page apear to the right of the 3 posts.
It now apears to the right of the slide show.
I think that is what this page is about, but I don’t quite understand it.

I’m using your theme at the site above. I just wanted to know how many children categories can be displayed. Sometimes I see three, and sometimes just two, while there are posts published in at least five sub-categories. How do I change the number?
Besides that, I get only one parent category displayed, despite the fact that I have posts published in at least two parent categories. Did something go wrong?
I would really appreciate your help, because I like this theme and was specially looking for a drop down menu.
how do you activate the banner ad on top right?
Hi ed, to activate the banner ad you need to click on Saturday 658 options from the Dashboard menu options on the left and when the page loads, look for the box reading “Header Banner” and enter your script code into that box.
Suzanne, there should not be a limit on the number of children categories displayed. I will check to see if there is a bug in the theme that might be causing the problem.
Hi John, you can do this by editing the theme files; but there aren’t any straight forward instructions available. I’ll see if I can make it an option in the core files in version 1.0.8
is it a link pointing to the folder where the file is?
like this for example “http://www.mysite.com/images/file.jpg”.
also how will we make the images on the post appear infront? the first 3 post as a feature post.

Hi ed, when you login to your wp-admin dashboard, look on the left where it says Dashboard, then has some menu items like Posts, Media, Links, Appearance, Plugins etc. If you keep going down the list you will eventually come to where it says “Saturday 658 Options”. You will click this link and it will open a page. As you scroll down that page you will come to the option for “Header Banner” which will have a text box next to it. Enter the code for your banner ad into that text box and update the theme options to save the value. As long as done correctly the banner ad should show on your page. If you need my help let me know and I will contact you via email.
The images will show up automatically as long as you have posts and the posts have images. Just make sure the images in your posts were uploaded to the media library. It will not work if you’re using hyper-linked images from an off-site location.
Is anyone else seeing an issue with a large space between the horizontal menu and the post/page section in IE? it is fine in Firefox, but has the space in IE 7 and 8.

Does the Header Banner have to be an ad? I can’t seem to get a simple jpg image show up. All it shows is the url of the image that I put in the text box.

I installed the HelloYellow scheme and activated the Showcase option. I have at least three posts in three different categories, none of which are Featured. Yet, I don’t get any images to show up in the 3 post feature and yes, all images exist in the posts as well as in the media library.
Any suggestions?

I noticed that every post that has an image shows the dimensions of the image in the excerpt and not an image or some writing … ??? I am really confused now.

I tried to use this theme but for some reason my images would not show up on the front page. I don’t know what was wrong but I changed my template to another magazine layout and my images worked fine with the other layout. Your template is cute, very cute, great design but a few bugs.

I just upgrade to your latest version 1.08 hoping this would solve my problem of not displaying images on the 3 posts, in the slideshow or anywhere else, even though the images are in the posts and in the media library but … no such luck.
Now, to top it all off my sub-categories suddenly became categories and now my screen looks completely distorted. I checked to make sure I didn’t accidentally change some setting but all looks OK.
Now what? Please respond to this….

However ….
the submenus just don’t seem to work right. They show up alright when I move my mouse over the main category but somehow they constantly disappear when I want to select an option from the submenu .
So …
How can I add links in posts that point to categories or pages (thus removing the subcategories and with it the submenu problems)but WITHOUT those particular categories or pages showing up on my site. In other words make them hidden.

A week ago I sent you an email confirming it’s ok for you to re-access my site and check out the sub-menu issue I’ve been having. As of today, (08/13/09) this issue is still unresolved.
The problem is that once I have more than 2 choices in a sub-menu, the sub-menu disappears as soon as the mouse moves to the 3rd option. Visitors can’t access anything after the second choice.
Feel free to check out my site and use the menu option Day By Day -> Get It Free or Healthy Cooking and you’ll see what I mean.
